| On June 6th 2007,
Matt left his hand and feet prints in cement outside Grauman's
Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
As part of Matt’s research for his role in the
film The Departed, it was organized for him to ride with police on a
drug bust.
Matt learned to play a few songs on piano for
The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Matt founded Project Greenlight with Affleck
to find and fund worthwhile film projects from novice filmmakers.
Matt lost so much weight for Courage Under
Fire, he nearly died. He was trying to look emaciated for the role
because his character was a heroin addict.
Matt said his strangest encounter was with a
girl who told him she never really thought much of him as an
actor... never really thought he was good looking... until she saw
The Borne Identity and found herself touching herself!
Matt is good friends with Ben Affleck, Rory
Cochrane, and Matthew McConaughey.
Matt was unable to attend best friend Ben
Affleck's wedding to Jennifer Garner due to the short notice, but he
didn't forget to send a gift! He sent them a check for an
undisclosed amount. A few years ago, Matt and Ben made a wager on
who would get married first; bachelor Matt has to pay off the bet!
Matt attended the Brothers Grimm premiere with
longtime buddy Ben Affleck (August 8, 2005).
Matt got knocked out at his very first job at
age 13, in which he had to ice skate. Why'd he fall? He didn't know
how to skate!
Matt won an Oscar for "Best Original
Screenplay" with his best friend Ben Affleck for their movie Good
Will Hunting.
Matt perfected his Southern accent for The
Rainmaker by working as a bartender in Knoxville, Tennessee for
free. He even hired one of the customers to serve as his dialect
coach.
Matt was able to quit smoking after working
with a hypnotist in Los Angeles.
When Matt's baby nephew cries he sings
"Afternoon Delight" for him.
Matt's favorite baseball team is his hometown
team--the Boston Red Sox.
Matt attended elementary school in Cambridge.
Matt went to high school at Cambridge Rindge
and Latin School.
Matt shaved his head for both Eurotrip and
Saving Private Ryan.
Matt was so anxious to become an actor, he
dropped out of Harvard just 12 credits short of graduating to head
to Los Angeles.
Matt is five feet nine and a half inches.
